Model RC Airplanes - Radio Control Hobbies

Does the thought of flying high powered model RC airplanes get your adrenaline going? Are you a bit confused as to the different models of RC planes available and aren’t sure where to begin?

The hobby of radio controlled flying has literally exploded in popularity over the last few years and there has never been a better time to enter the world of RC hobbies than there is right now. Throughout the years the costs of RC model airplanes, RC jets and helicopters has been drastically reduced, making the hobby affordable to everyone.

Better yet, the market has introduced a series of beginner training RC model airplanes over the years so that even a complete novice can learn to fly without concern of the previous high costs involved in having to replace damaged or malfunctioning RC airplane models. In fact, you can get started with your first RC airplane for less than $150 for a new model or purchase a second hand unit for less than half the cost.

The majority of entry level RC airplanes are RTF (ready to fly), electric powered and are either one, two or three channel. RTF airplanes require no construction other than attaching the wings, so it’s ready to fly right out of the box. The only work involved is in installing and charging the battery pack!

There are over 200 different RTF models to choose from, and if you are new to RC airplanes it’s important to choose an airplane that is designed especially for beginners, as it will have a tremendous impact on your experience flying your first RC model.

Here are a few of the most popular beginner RC airplane models:

Super Cub LP

Light weight and inexpensive, the Super Cub LP is the perfect RC airplane when just starting out with its gentle flying characteristics and great scale.

Firebird Phantom

This low cost 3 channel RC airplane comes with the newest in Anti Crash technology (ACT) and offers simple navigation features.

Sky Fly 2

Features a pod & boom style design which is a favorite for beginners due to its simplicity and ease in navigation, the Sky Fly series is one of the more affordable models on the market.

Slo-V

A slower flying RC airplane, it’s known as the ‘beginners entry plane’ and is ideal for low-key leisurely flying.

When purchasing a model RC airplane, consider both the durability factor as well as the overall cost. For example, a foam RC airplane is far more durable and can take quite a few hits without being damaged as opposed to traditional balsa wood RC airplane models.

You will also want to purchase spare parts to replace any damaged units, because regardless of how experienced you are, your RC models are bound to take a few hits.
