RC Electric Boat - Radio Control Hobbies
An RC electric boat is a great choice for an entry-level remote control boat. Nitro boats can be very expensive, and are time-consuming and difficult to maintain, but electric models are inexpensive and easy to master.
Nitro models are not only expensive and hard to maintain, they’re also very loud. It’s true that they are generally much faster than electric models, but the extra maintenance and cost may be too much for some people, making electric models a popular choice among beginners.
Electric boats are also generally smaller in size than their gas-powered counterparts. This makes them ideal for smaller bodies of water where a larger model might not be a good fit.
Electric boats can still reach speeds or around 30 MPH, so they’re not exactly slow. This speed is perfectly acceptable for a beginner, especially in smaller areas like small ponds or pools.
If you’re a beginner, a good model is one that is about 24-30 inches long, with a 550 or 700 size motor. Most RTR (ready to run) models are sport boats, but these can also be raced in clubs at the competition level.
If you want a scale model that is based on a real boat, you may have to buy a kit that you must put together yourself instead of an RTR model that will run straight out of the box. Most scale models require assembly. Some people may prefer to put their own kit together, but others prefer the simplicity of out-of-the-box models.
If you just want to get into the water as quickly as possible, you should opt for an RTR model. While these are usually non-scale models that aren’t based on real boats, you can be boating with these in no time at all. You may have to add some decals, and you’ll have to charge the batteries the first time, but you’ll be running long before you could put together a scale model.
Most RC electric boats are made with ABS plastic that is very durable. It’s also quite lightweight, which is important if you want a faster boat. The lighter the boat, the faster it will be, even with a lower-powered engine.
When you buy your boat, it’s very important to read the manual carefully when you bring it home. Some boats may require special steps before you can use them, and you need to be sure you’re using the boat properly. You also need to know what steps are required in order to properly maintain the boat.
I don’t recommend running your boat in a body of water where you cannot see the bottom. Murky or cloudy water may hide all sorts of snags and bumps that could damage your boat, so you should keep that in mind. It’s a better idea to use your boat only in clear water, or water where many other boaters have been running their boats for a long time without incident. The last thing you want is for your RC boat to get hung up in weeds and damaged on its first run!
