RC Mini Car - RC Powered Hobbies

RC mini car models are those that are smaller than 1/12 the size of the original car; with one of the popular sizes for mini’s being 1/32. These cars are classified as "toy-grade" (that is, not professional grade) and are usually electric powered making them inherently slower than their gas powered cousins.

The reason why these types of mini cars are electric powered is because their bodies are too small to house a full size gas engine; or if they did have a gas engine the weight ratio would be too great and would drastically reduce their overall speed.

These miniature cars are great for beginners or even just children; miniature radio controlled cars are typically inexpensive so replacing them isn’t a big deal if they get broken or damaged and repairing them is out of the question unless it’s not going to involve replacing parts. Replacing parts is going to be too tedious on such a small toy that it’s usually not worth anyone’s time to even attempt it.

You can find cars like these are most hobby stores such as RadioShack; they sell a few in-house brands of mini RC cars and can fit just about any budget. Some can even be purchased with a generic electric engine with different body styles that can be snapped into place.

All of these cars are RTR, or Ready to Race, as they come out of the package fully assembled with the exception of batteries. Just pop some in and you’re ready to go. If you’re going to be racing with other people, you should have alternate receiver bodies just in case someone is on the same radio frequency as you so you won’t get left out.

Because they’re so small, they’re ideal for indoor racing as they’ll also be short range. They won’t be able to handle much terrain so you’ll want to provide a very flat surface for the car; as most tricks are best done on smooth surfaces for a car of this type.

These types of cars are also very low maintenance, as you’ll just have to dust them out or pull out stray bits of hair if they happen to get stuck. Most problems with these cars are just going to be the batteries or a failure of the radio receiver or transmitter; so be prepared to go in for a replacement.

Since we have found ways to shrink the radio controlled car, it’s making it easier to have smaller radio controlled airplanes and helicopters; soon we’ll see very small aircraft flying around parks or even indoors.

Make sure you have a safe environment for these cars; you don’t want them to run into small children or get accidentally stepped on because they will break instantly ending your fun abruptly. It’s best to clear out a room with a wooden floor as best as you can and tell everyone else around you’re going to be playing with a radio controlled car so they will know to watch where they’re stepping in case they have to go into the room.
